What are the advantages of titanium screws over traditional screws?

Update time  2023-12-26 Reading 43

As a raw material element for the production of titanium screws, titanium is a highly active metal. Compared with traditional stainless steel, titanium screws have better flexibility and oxidation resistance.

In various industries, the application of ordinary stainless steel screws is more extensive. Compared with titanium screws, titanium screws have stronger compressive strength in high-pressure environments. Therefore, in aerospace metals, titanium alloy is chosen for production, and titanium screws are used as connecting components.

Advantages of titanium screws and materials:

1. Low density, high specific strength: The density of titanium metal is 4.51g/cm3, higher than aluminum but lower than steel, copper, and nickel, but its specific strength ranks first among metals.

2. Corrosion resistance: Titanium is a very active metal with a low equilibrium potential and a strong thermodynamic corrosion tendency in the medium. However, in reality, titanium is very stable in many media, such as oxidizing, neutral, and weakly reducing media, which are corrosion-resistant.

3. Good heat resistance: The new titanium alloy can be used for a long time at temperatures of 600 ℃ or higher.

4. Good low-temperature resistance: Low temperature titanium alloys such as TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V), and Ti-2.5Zr-1.5Mo, represented by low temperature titanium alloys, have increased strength with decreasing temperature, but little change in plasticity. Maintaining good ductility and toughness at low temperatures of -196-253 ℃, avoiding metal cold brittleness, it is an ideal material for low-temperature containers, storage tanks, and other equipment.

5. Strong anti damping performance: After being subjected to mechanical and electrical vibrations, titanium metal has a longer self vibration attenuation time compared to steel and copper metals.

6. Non magnetic and non-toxic: Titanium is a non-magnetic metal that will not be magnetized even in high magnetic fields. It is non-toxic and has good compatibility with human tissues and blood, so it is adopted by the medical community.

7. The tensile strength is close to its yield strength: this property of titanium indicates that its yield strength ratio (tensile strength/yield strength) is high, indicating poor plastic deformation of titanium metal materials during forming. Due to the large ratio of yield limit to elastic modulus of titanium, the springback ability of titanium during molding is high.

8. Good heat transfer performance: Although the thermal conductivity of titanium metal is lower than that of carbon steel and copper, due to its excellent corrosion resistance, the wall thickness of titanium can be greatly reduced. Moreover, the heat exchange between the surface and steam is in a dropwise condensation mode, reducing the heat group. The lack of scaling on the surface can also reduce thermal resistance, significantly improving the heat transfer performance of titanium.

9. Low elastic modulus: The elastic modulus of titanium is 106.4 high standard a at room temperature, which is 57% of that of steel.

10. Inhalation performance: Titanium screws are a highly reactive metal that can react with many elements and compounds at high temperatures. Titanium gas absorption mainly refers to the reaction with carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and oxygen at high temperatures.
